Spring BOGO Book Fair - April 17th-21st 2023

Come shop our buy one, get one free book fair!


Students will have time to shop with their class; contact your teacher for exact times/days. We need volunteers; please sign up here! All volunteers must have minimum CPS Level 2 clearance. For more info, visit this CPS volunteer page.


Family shopping night with be Thursday, 4/20/23 from 3:30 - 7:30 p.m.


We encourage families to set up eWallets for their students...no worries about lost money and any funds not used will stay in the student account for future purchases. Follow this link for to learn how to set up eWallets. 


PLEASE consider donating to the Friends of Canty eWallet. Every cent goes to students who are "just a little short" for their purchase. Your donation allows us to not have to tell kids to put a book back. We thank you in advance!!

Canty Rainbow Walkathon - Friday, 5/5/23

On Friday, May 5th*, Canty will be hosting a Rainbow Walkathon Fundraiser. Funds will be used to help upgrade the exterior of the school to increase pride in our neighborhood school!

While the field needs serious repair, those costs are over $1 million, and in order for that to be accomplished, parents are encouraged to go to CPS board meetings to push for those repairs to be made as soon as possible.  

However, while we wait for that to be completed, we can raise money to beautify the school in other ways including; but not limited to, signage; either a marquee, murals, and/or on our playground fences; school garden improvements; or landscaping.   Just a marquee can range in price from $10,000 to $30,000!

The hope is to make this walkathon an annual event where funds raised will roll over each year and be used for continuous exterior enhancements.  

 

The plan is for students to walk around the block of the school for 30 minutes with their homerooms. After each lap, students will get a different color stripe on their arm, the goal is to walk enough laps to have a rainbow. There will also be bubbles, music, popsicles, and fun!

 

Students are encouraged to ask for pledges from family and friends. Students who raise enough money will be eligible to win prizes!

No School Day Camp @ Karate Academy - Wednesday, 3/29/23

Karate Academy is offering Canty students a fun filled day camp experience on our no school day on March 29, 2023.


Camp is from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the cost is $35 per student. After camp care is available from 4 - 6 p.m. for an additional $15.


 Karate Academy will give a portion back to Friends of Canty's general fund (for dances, student/staff treats & events, block party, etc.).

The tentative schedule is:


9a- Early Morning Run & Stretch to the Park

10a- Scooter Basketball

11am- Karate Class

12pm- Lunch (Bag Lunch)

1pm- Arts & Crafts

2pm- Dodgeball

Penguin Patch     Holiday Shop - 12/12 to 12/16

Canty's holiday shop is back!

This year, we are partnering with Penguin Patch to bring back the opportunity for students to shop for Christmas presents for their family. Students will visit the shop with their class; contact your child's teacher for the date & time of their visit to the shop.


We need volunteers!! Penguin Patch will give a $10 gift certificate for their child to use in the holiday shop!

Winter Giving Drive, 12/19 - 12/22/23

Everyone may not have a lot but everyone has something to give!

Help Friends of Canty and the school teach our children about giving by sending dry food goods to school. Each grade will decorate a giant gingerbread house and fill their house will all their donations.


Goods will be donated to the Beyond Hunger organization in Oak Park.


The grade that brings the most items will win a popcorn party!

 

Santa Sitters - Friday, 12/16/22

Friends of Canty will provide after school care on Friday, 12-16 from 3:00 to 6:30 p.m. for PreK through 5th grade Canty students (sorry, no younger or older siblings). Use the time to shop, catch up, or whatever you like!


Send an after school snack, we'll provide the rest - dinner, games, crafts, and FUN!!


The cost is $10 per student, $20 for student and siblings


Registration is only open to the first 150 students.... spots & permission slips will not be accepted without payment.

T-Shirt Design Contest, 10/3 - 10/14/22

Hey students - use your creativity to design a T-shirt that will be purchased for every Cougar!


All T-shirt designs submitted should reflect the Canty Community Pillars: 

Inclusivity:  Open your heart to others!

Citizenship:  Become the leaders of tomorrow!

Perseverance:  Reach for the sky! 

Trustworthiness:  Grow the trust others place in you!

Kindness:  Treat others the way you want to be treated!  


In order for the design to be scanned correctly, it should be a black and white image using a Sharpie to draw or trace over pencil lines.  The design should also be made oversized to fill at least an 8.5" x 11" sheet of paper so that the image can be scaled to fit without compromising the details of the design.  Designs will be voted on by the entire Canty community including students, teachers, staff, and families!  Once the winning design is chosen and scanned by the vendor, the winning designer will be able to choose up to two colors to fill in portions of the design!


Not only will the winner have their design on a shirt that will be purchased for every Cougar, but 1st place  also will receive a $50 Visa gift card.  Plus, two runners up will also receive a $25 Visa gift card EACH!


Designs must be submitted to the student's homeroom teacher by Friday, October 14th, 2022. 

 

Halloween Party, 10/20/22

Kona Ice Fundraiser -  9/9/22

Canty Parents & students  showed UP to support our Kona Ice Fundraiser on September 6th!!  Our families raised $357.80. These funds will go to the FoC general fund, which goes towards the organization (banking fees, etc.) and towards fun events for students & families.


Teacher Welcome Back Breakfast - 22/23

Several Canty parents joined with Friends of Canty in welcoming our teachers back to school and it was a hit!
